Keep it love around me

“I love you.”

Three of the most influential and vital words known to man.

Three of the most misused, devalued, and unsaid words known to man.

I didn't grow up in a family environment where those words were said often. Not by my parents, not by aunts, uncles, or cousins. I can only remember being told "I love you" by family members in my thirties from my dad's side. They always say it when someone is leaving or if we are getting off the phone. It was weird and uncomfortable at first, but gradually I began to develop a soft spot for hearing it. It began to be something I lowkey craved. I love hearing, "I love you." It makes me feel loved and appreciated. However, I've developed particulars when it comes to someone saying that to me. I prefer "I love you" over "Love ya." When someone says, "Love ya," the meaning behind it to me is less impactful. I want people to speak to me liked I talk to myself.

I say, "Dreux, I love you" many times a day. Usually, when I'm feeling anxious, hurt, or triggered, I can feel myself getting upset. I have to remind myself that before anyone else can love me, that I love me, and by loving myself, I show others how to love me.

I recently completed an assignment to write a letter to my late grandmother. It's to help me let go of the blame and anger I have developed grieving. One of the sentence starters stated, "I want to let you know that I." All I could think of to say was that I loved her. I think it's imperative to tell those around you, friends, family, partners, whoever you love that you love them. People don't hear it genuinely enough to appreciate what it means to love someone. For me, when I love someone, it means that I feel safe, confident, beautiful, happy, and at peace with this person. It means that I see them, their purpose, and their light. Sure, depending on who the person is, it may have a deeper meaning, but that is the core for me.

I want to be surrounded by those I love and who love me genuinely and wholely. That energy is fantastic to have and experience. I love me unconditionally and purely and want to give that love back. If you have love, love, in love, or however you want to break down your love tank with someone, tell them. Pour into each other's love tank and watch the love flow fluidly, effortlessly, and continuously. If you love me, tell me because I'm definitely going to keep the same energy.
